MPO 532 Lifespan Development

This course is a graduate level psychology seminar designed to provide students with an opportunity to explore advanced issues related to human development. In addition to reviewing historic influential theories, the course will focus on more recent empirical literature. Readings and discussion will cover development across the lifespan in multiple domains, with a focus on multicultural issues and individual differences. Normal human development will be emphasized, with clinical applications discussed as appropriate. The class format will include a mixture of lectures, class discussion, and in-class exams. By the end of the course attendees will be able to: 1) Describe foundational theories and models of development across the lifespan; 2) Apply foundational theories and models to the understanding of healthy development; 3) Demonstrate critical thinking surrounding ethical and diversity issues related to the application of foundational theories and models.
