Aeromedical Emergency Medical Services, ASHS
Overview
The Associate of Science in Health Sciences (ASHS) with a concentration in Aeromedical Emergency Medical Services is an elite academic program designed to transform Navy Hospital Corpsmen into advanced Flight Medics by bridging foundational medicine with the rigors of the Naval Aviation environment. The curriculum provides intensive training for Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Hospital Corpsmen and Search and Rescue Medical Technicians (SMTs), equipping them with the advanced skills required to conduct comprehensive assessments and deliver life-saving interventions independently of a medical officer. Students are trained to stabilize and manage patients during transport via rotary or tilt-wing aircraft for up to 24 hours across a variety of demanding operational environments.
To earn the degree, students must complete at least 60 semester hours, which includes a 15-semester-hour major technical field of study composed of five core FLMC courses: EMT Refresher, EMS Operations, Medical Life Support, Aeromedical Critical Care, and Assessment-Based Management. This technical pathway integrates 11 semester hours of specialized training with previous resident credit from the Hospital Corpsman Basic Program.
