2026-2027 Academic Catalog

Emergency Medical Services, A.S.

Overview

The Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Services degree is designed to prepare students attending the Army Combat Paramedic and Special Operations Combat Medic courses to enter the Paramedic Profession. This major has two closely related, but distinct, degree pathways. The first is associated with the Army Combat Paramedic course which prepares EMT-certified combat medics to be medically informed critical thinkers and creates operationally focused, national registry-certified advanced enlisted providers. It is designed to prepare students for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians - Paramedic examination and to have an extended scope of practice for current and future operational environments. The second pathway, for Army and Navy enlisted members, is associated with the Special Operations Combat Medic course and relates to qualification of its students to serve in advance combat medical roles in Special Operations organizations. The course qualifies these enlisted service members as highly trained combat medics with the necessary skills and abilities to provide initial medical and trauma care and aptitude to increase team survivability. The Special Operations Combat Medic course is designed to teach the knowledge and skills required to manage combat casualties from initial point of injury through evacuation. Students graduating from this course are certified as National Registry EMTs at the Paramedic level. The goal of both tracks is to produce highly competent Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.

Accreditation or Related Information: Each program track is individually accredited by CAAHEP through the recommendations of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
