MCB 502 Current Research in Molecular and Cellular Biology
The objectives of this course are to train graduate students to (i) follow new developments and discoveries in the area of molecular and cell biology; (ii) critically analyze and evaluate the data, methods, and conclusions in research articles from primary literature and the data (or plans) of their own research projects; and (iii) present and communicate scientific data, concepts and ideas. Critical analysis and evaluation of research articles is performed by students working in three teams, with each team respectively working from the perspective of editors, reviewers or authors. Group discussions will be moderated by the course directors and teaching assistants. Each student team finalizes their presentations prior to class. The group and the individuals will be graded based on the quality of their presentation/analysis. A cumulative grade will be assigned to each student at the end of the quarter.
