NSO 904 Grant Writing for Graduate Students

This course will offer a thorough understanding of the grant writing process for graduate students and to enable graduate students to work in an efficient manner to produce a fundable grant and/or fellowship application. A great grant application requires an important question, clear logic exploring that question and the resources to complete the proposed studies. This course will provide an overview of NIH funding mechanisms, with a focus on development of a grant application, time management and peer review. The course will be taught with both a didactic portion, in which NIH mechanisms and components of a grant application are explained, and a hands-on writing portion, in which students will develop an application that will undergo peer review on a weekly basis. At the end of the course, it is expected that students will have an understanding of the NIH grant writing process, the many components that make up the grant application, and develop a grant application suitable for submission.
