PMO 560 Principles And Practice Of Tropical Medicine

This course presents a comprehensive approach to the principles and practice of tropical medicine. Tropical illness will be presented from both a pathogen and organ system perspective (i.e., cardiac, neurological, dermatological). The epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, complications, differential diagnoses, diagnostic features, and treatment of each disease will be presented. Methods for the prevention and control of these diseases are emphasized. Rational approaches to patients with various symptom complexes are discussed. Students are strongly encouraged to enroll concurrently in PMO 614 Tropical Medicine Rounds. Graded; or Pass/Fail in limited circumstances with instructor permission. Prerequisites: PMO600 Fundamentals of Human Physiology (For non-clinicians only) or Concurrence of Course Director Spring Petersen 4.5 Semester Hours/Graded.
