Orofacial Pain - Masters of Science (MS) in Oral Biology

Overview

Orofacial Pain: Advanced training in Orofacial Pain is conducted to provide highly trained officers to carry out the primary mission of readiness and supporting Warfighters and Wounded Warriors. Orofacial pain treatment is a key component in supporting our Warfighters ability to perform their missions in an unrestricted fashion and thereby assuring the readiness and fitness of our force. Orofacial Pain refers to a complex group of disorders that affect hard and soft tissues of the head, face, and neck to include temporomandibular disorders (TMD), musculoskeletal head/neck pain, non-otologic ear pain, non-odontogenic tooth pain, headaches, neuropathic pain disorders, movement disorders, and dental management of sleep breathing disorders. Fellowship or residency training in orofacial pain is available to qualified dental officers on an as needed basis, by Service.

Prerequisites: Previous 2-year general dentistry or specialty residency

Length: 24 months (Complete Curriculum Years 2 and 3)

Location: Naval Postgraduate Dental School – Bethesda MD

Upon Completion: Certificate and Master of Science Degree (Oral Biology)
