MILS 1301 Military Science

Basic Combat/Military Training is recognized as postsecondary education Military Science coursework and classified within the Social Science discipline by the CAHS. The award of transfer credits based on learning assessment and reference to the Joint Service Transcript (JST) and Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcripts are supported by recommendations and information from the ACE Military Guide and the Air University/Community College of the Air Force General Catalog.

  1. Basic Combat Training (BCT) / Basic Military Training (BMT): Foundational military training program required for all new service members, tailored to the specific mission requirements of each branch.
  2. Military Science: The study of military institutions, processes, behavior, and warfare.
    Classified as a Social Science by CAHS.
  • All Service members attending initial entry training (IET), advanced individual training (AIT) / A or C school courses without regard to Active Duty, National Guard or Reserve status are recognized as graduates of their service specific basic training prior to enrollment eligibility at the USU-CAHS program.
  • Students who completed BCT/BMT in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, or Coast Guard are eligible for award of 3 semester hours of Military Science transfer credit upon entry into a CAHS degree seeking program.
  • Military Science credits earned from completion of BCT or BMT meet the CAHS General Education Social Science requirement.
  • All students awarded the 3 semester hours of Military Science credit will have it documented in their CAHS academic record as MILS 1301, Military Science.
