HPE 808 Grant Writing
In this course, learners will gain the skills and knowledge needed to identify grant opportunities and write a comprehensive educational research grant proposal. Using the AAMC Group on Educational Affairs (GEA) grant guidelines as a model, this course covers the essential components of a successful grant proposal. Through a combination of lectures, readings, and practical exercises, participants will learn to identify funding sources, differentiate between funding types, and craft each section of a grant proposal with the goal of developing a complete proposal by the end of the course.

- Identify potential funding sources.
- Explain the major types of funding sources and their differences.
- Develop a grant proposal: a. Identify relevant literature and theoretical frameworks, b. Use the problem-gap-hook heuristic to develop an effective introduction, c. Articulate research questions that map to a logic model, d. Develop a logic model, e. Form a research team, f. Craft and secure letters of support, g. Create a well-justified budget, h. Create a realistic project timeline that aligns with the grant period
