MED 4470 Critical Care Medicine Elective

Clinical Hands-On/Direct

 

In this Critical Care Medicine elective, the rotating medical student will join the NIH ICU team in managing high acuity patients with complex and rare diseases. Responsibilities include 6:30 AM rounds, microbiology rounds, and patient evaluations under supervision. The program features a dedicated lecture series, simulation training, and hands-on experience with intravascular catheters. Students benefit from extensive NIH resources with no weekend or evening duties.

Learning Objectives

  1. Gain clinical experience in providing thoughtful, and expedient, quality care for critically ill patients.
  2. Learn the procedural and intellectual skills required of a critical care physician.
