MLTS 1117 Clinical Virology
This course introduces the fundamental principles of clinical virology and emergency preparedness regarding biological agents. Students examine viral architecture, classification, replication cycles, host-virus interactions, and clinical manifestations of major viral pathogens. The curriculum covers diagnostic methodologies—including viral culture, serology, antigen detection, and molecular diagnostic assays—alongside proper specimen collection, transport, and biosafety protocols. Additionally, students explore the principles of biosecurity and bioterrorism, evaluating the role of the clinical laboratory in detecting, sentinel-reporting, and responding to category A–C biological agents.
