FDST 1401 Fundamentals of Food Systems and Inspection

This course provides initial instruction on the critical role of the Food Inspection Specialist in the DOW Veterinary Service Activity mission. It focuses on the substrate of basic knowledge required for technical proficiency, including global procurement systems, identification of food groups, and the determination of identity and condition. Students learn the foundational skills for receipt and surveillance inspections, emphasizing the security of the military supply chain. Integrate basic principles of food procurement and identification with knowledge of DOW veterinary roles to determine subsistence serviceability. This includes developing clinical reasoning to assess food defense vulnerabilities and packaging integrity of stored subsistence.
