MPO 902 Research Methods and Complex Human Experimentation II

This course provides students with information regarding a variety of research methodologies that are used in scientific psychology. A major goal of the course is to provide students with skills in critical thinking and scientific writing. A major exercise in the course is the preparation of a research grant in NIH format. By the end of the course attendees will be able to: 1) To critically evaluate manuscripts and grants; 2) To translate hypotheses into research designs and chose appropriate statistical tests; 3) To understand the entire process of developing a grant proposal (i.e., developing idea, drafting testable aims and hypotheses, design study with gold standard methods, choosing appropriate statistical analyses, adequate ethical considerations, grant review process); 4) To learn about and examine advanced research methodologies used in clinical, behavioral, experimental, and social/epidemiological research.
