NURS 6622 Military Contingency Medicine/Operation Bushmaster

Military Contingency Medicine is an inter-professional course which develops students in preparation for battlefield trauma care, health service support, and logistical management for operational scenarios. Students will focus on the principles and practice of team leadership and organizational management for joint sustainment and protection functions such as Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), forward resuscitative care (FRC), en-route care, patient movement, force health protection, preventive medicine, health surveillance, risk management, and combat & operational stress control (COSC). Operation Bushmaster is a simulated deployment to a developing country and is designed to provide the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and application of military medical practice, field medical skills, and leadership abilities. Students will create and maintain a Role-1 medical facility to support an operational military unit. Students will plan and execute operational scenarios, while simultaneously managing medical care of simulated patients.
