SUR 4700 Trauma Surgery Sub-Internship
The purpose of this sub-internship rotation is to provide an immersive experience in the practice of trauma surgery at premier level-1 trauma centers throughout the United States. Students will be expected to demonstrate a detailed understanding of the evaluation, medical, and surgical management of critically injured patients, including trauma-bay evaluation, operative intervention, and inpatient management both in the intensive care unit and on the wards. Sub-interns will be expected to participate in the care of their patients at the intern level, including a requirement for call at the frequency of the most junior resident on the service. The goal of this course is to prepare both students interested in both surgery and primary care with the opportunity to experience the specialty in preparation for internship and residency.
