MED 3200 Medicine Clerkship

The Medicine Clerkship provides a foundational 10-week experience and meaningful participation in the care of patients with a wide variety of complex medical problems.  There is a focus on clinical problem solving, leading to students becoming clinicians who embrace complexity, yet act with simplicity. Growing independence and fulfillment of one’s promise of duty and expertise is the core goal. In the clinics, students work one-on-one with general medicine and subspecialist attending physicians.  On the wards, students are valued members of the team alongside attending physicians, residents, and interns. Small groups of students are assigned weekly protected time with a preceptor who coaches them on their skills. Medical student-only lectures address core topics and students have access to additional hospital conferences. Learners are expected to become reliable “reporters” making the transition to active “interpreters” for their patients, and ultimately to “manager/educators” of them.
