MPO 514 Psychology of Learning
The purpose of this course is to examine the process and application of learning, especially as it applies to behavioral and clinical psychology. We will focus on expanding your knowledge and understanding of both basic and more advanced principles of classical and operant conditioning and how these principles are applied to practical situations and clinical conditions such as substance abuse, the formation and treatment of phobias, PTSD, depression, etc.. By the end of the course attendees will be able to: 1) Discuss basic and more advanced learning theories and principles relevant to classical and operant conditioning; 2) Describe how learning theories and principles can be used to explain a variety of common behaviors; 3) Apply learning theories and principles to explain the initiation, maintenance, and treatment of clinical issues and disorders; 4) Through written and oral products, communicate clearly the role of learning theory and principles in a hypothetical clinical case.
