PSY 3102 Neuropsychiatry Selective

This course occurs during the Clerkship year.

 

Students DO NOT need to complete the Psychiatry Clerkship to participate.

 

This rotation allows 1(one) student/rotation, with some rotations not being available.

 

*Students must confirm enrollment with Psychiatry Course Coordinators (psychiatrycourse@usuhs.edu) to assure availability.

 

This is an inpatient rotation, with some work and meetings on Ward 7E at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE). Students participate in teaching rounds, conferences, lectures/seminars under the supervision of WRNMMC Psychiatry faculty in the evaluation and management of adult patients with neuropsychiatric conditions such as traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and others.

 

Goals and Objectives:

1. Recognize common psychiatric manifestations of neurologic disease
2. Perform a complete neurologic examination
3. Participate in the comprehensive assessment and treatment of patients with behavioral or cognitive disturbance as the result of neurologic disease
4. Submit at least two written BRIEF but comprehensive psychiatric assessments (to include a defensible formulation, differential diagnosis, and treatment plan) in conjunction with an oral presentation of each to the program attending, followed by review of each report by the program attending
