SUR 3200 Surgery & Surgical Subspecialties Clerkship

The core surgery clerkship is a required rotation consisting of five weeks of General Surgery and two 2½-week subspecialty elective rotations which the students choose. By participating in the care of surgical patients in the inpatient, outpatient, and operating room settings and by taking overnight call, the student is incorporated as part of the surgical team and is introduced to pre-operative evaluation of surgical problems, treatment planning, surgical decision-making, the operative experience, and post-operative care. The overarching objective is to familiarize the student with the surgical experience regardless of their ultimate specialty choice.
