SURI 3108 Maritime Health Services Practicum I
This course is designed to assess the student’s knowledge in the application of topics covered up to this point in the course of instruction. This is an intensive 30-hour practicum delivered under hyper-realistic conditions. Students are given administrative scenarios commonly encountered in the maritime environment such as general administration, medical department administration, healthcare, logistics, training, pest control, sanitation, occupational health, and preventive medicine. Students are also required to assess, diagnosis, and formulate treatment plans for patient scenarios using simulated crew members provided to them by their preceptors. Patient scenarios include conditions in the nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, HEENT system, and dental disorders.
