IDO 520 Special Topics in Statistics

This course is targeted at MPS students (and other graduate students at USUHS) who are interested in developing a deeper understanding of statistical topics of emerging importance in the psychological and biomedical sciences. These topics are of particular relevance given recent concerns about reproducibility of findings in psychology and biomedicine (Collins & Tabak, 2014; Harris, 2017). The specific goals of this course are to introduce students, through a series of 1-credit modules, to the basic theory and application of a number of topics including Multilevel Models (MLM), Structural Equation Models (SEM) (within a “Psychometrics” Module), and Machine Learning. Each of these topics is very broad, and so the class will only be able to provide an introduction to each topic. After completion of the course, students with a specific interest in a particular topic will be directed by the instructors to take a dedicated course in that topic. IDO520 will be organized into 1-credit modules. Students can take 1, 2, or 3 modules. Modules can be elective or required, as per program specifications.
