MIL 2001 Military Medicine 100

Military Medicine 100 initiates the development of medical officers on the mobile and widely dispersed battlefield of the future, in support of both combat and non-combat military operations. This integrated module extends across the entire 16-month pre-clerkship period to provide education and training in Military Field Medicine (MFM), Military Medical Practice (MMP), and Military Medical Leadership (MML), with the goal of developing critical thinking with incomplete information, problem solving in uncertain scenarios, and decision making under stress.  Medical Field Practicum (MFP) 101 occurs in October of the first year and includes training in the skills needed to survive and operate in deployed settings, the basics of joint health services and casualty evacuation in contingency operations. It also provides an opportunity to experience what it is like to be a patient in a simulated environment. Included are discussions with senior, non-medical military leaders regarding their views of leadership and the roles, responsibilities, and interfaces of medical officers. Medical Field Practicum 102 is another component and takes place after the first year of medical school.  It focuses on delivering lifesaving care for casualties in an out-of-hospital setting.
