RBB 201 Oral Surgery 1
This course is designed to increase the resident’s competence in exodontia and outpatient oral surgery and to familiarize the resident with hospital inpatient dental care and major oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures. The primary goal of these rotations is for the resident to become exposed to OMFS hospital operations, anesthesiology, and to participate in admitting and discharging patients to include history taking and physical examination. Residents will also observe and assist in advanced surgical procedures in the operating room or in the OMFS outpatient surgical suite, where pre-surgical evaluation and post-surgical care will be emphasized. Residents treat numerous cases of impacted 3rd molars, single or multiple non-restorable teeth requiring surgical extraction, pre-prosthetic surgery and the management of infection and post-operative sequelae.
