COMF 874 Orofacial Pain
This course consists of didactic and clinical instruction in treating patients with orofacial pain conditions and the dental management of patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Lectures are given covering practical guidelines for evaluation, diagnosis, and rehabilitative management of patients with TMD symptoms as well as various other chronic orofacial pain conditions. Topics include pertinent epidemiology, anatomy, neuroanatomy, pain neurophysiology, orofacial pain diagnoses, and orofacial pain management strategies. Residents will also receive an overview of sleep medicine with an emphasis on dental management of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Residents will attend the Orofacial Pain Post Graduate Course which provides an overview of orofacial pain and dental sleep medicine management. During clinical rotations, residents evaluate/treat various orofacial pain and referred patients for dental management of obstructive sleep apnea.
