HPE 504 Principles of Instruction in Clinical Settings

The overall goals of the course are (1) to enhance participants' versatility as teachers, (2) to enhance learner’s ability to analyze clinical teaching using an educational framework, (3) to understand the theories underlying the categories of the framework, and (4) to provide a forum for collegial exchange. The primary focus of the course is to improve the process of teaching rather than on the content (or subject matter) being taught.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the categories of the Stanford Clinical Teaching educational framework, and the behaviors that are the dimensions of performance within the categories;
  2. Analyze clinical teaching encounters using this educational framework;
  3. Utilize the educational frameworks to visualize effective teaching behaviors.
