MEM 4805 Military and Operational Space Medicine
In the not too distant future, man will explore space beyond the confines of Earth and our Moon. Space is our next frontier, and potentially the next battlefield. As military medical leaders, we must prepare to support this voyage and future mission. During this four-week course, students will consider the effects of space travel on military mission planning to include threats, operations, logistics, and medical support. Learners will understand the physiologic and anatomic changes that occur in microgravity, and how the unique environment of space impacts human performance and readiness. Experts from many diverse fields (psychiatry, space medicine, leadership, reproduction, space law, surgery, simulation, just to name a few) will deliver lectures and lead small group discussions. These multidisciplinary and multimedia discussions will culminate in a team presentation and contribute to our future mission amongst the stars.
