The Opticianry Program is designed to provide students with the basic training necessary to fabricate and dispense prescription eyewear in a clinical and field environment. Fabrication operations include spectacle surfacing and finishing. Students will also learn to assist in the treatment of ocular disorders and perform equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair on optical laboratory equipment and accessories.
Accreditation or Related Information: Specialized Accreditation is with the Commission on Opticianry Accreditation (COA). Institutional accreditation is with the Council on Occupational Education. Graduates are eligible to take the National Opticianry Competency Exam becoming Certified Opticians and/or Paraoptometric Assistants.
Credentialing Information: Graduates are eligible to take the National Opticianry Competency Exam becoming Certified Opticians and take the Paraoptometric Assistant Exam. becoming Certified Paraoptometric Assistants.
