It is foundational for all Navy enlisted medical personnel. The HCB is a program with two phases. Resident training is first conducted at the Medical Education Training Campus. There, students are introduced to the duties and responsibilities of corpsman and will be instructed in: medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, nursing concepts and skills, Basic Life Support, airway management, patient assessment, primary care, medical emergencies, trauma, operational medicine principles, and Tactical Combat Casualty Care. Methods of instruction include, but are not limited to: lecture, demonstration, online materials, simulations, laboratory practice, and practical exercises. In the second phase of the course, students transition to clinical training conducted at military treatment facilities, Veterans Administration, and/or civilian hospitals.
