FLA 102 Oral Medicine

This course consists of didactic and clinical instruction in treating medically complex patients. Lectures are given covering anatomy and physiology of many of the organ systems found in humans. Instruction is given on chronic disease processes, the effect that those processes have on the delivery of dental care, information on oral conditions that may be caused by specific disease entities, and treatment for those conditions. Residents attend a three day physical evaluation course. Instruction of physical examination techniques as well as diagnostic tests available for the evaluation of a patient’s medical stability is provided. During the clinical rotation in hospital dentistry the residents treat medically complex, special needs, and geriatric patients. The residents are exposed to treatment of operating room patients under general anesthesia.
