NURS 8876 Precision Health and Omics
This course focuses on precision health and omics, driven by a new era of individualized care with new diagnostics, risk prediction, targeted prevention and therapeutic strategies. Students will develop foundational knowledge in the omics with the following focused areas: genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenomics, microbiomics, nutrigenomic, and pharmacogenomics. A comprehensive view of omics as the biological underpinnings of health and disease and how it provides new tools to more accurately predict, prevent, diagnose and treat disease and related symptoms will be provided. An understanding of advances in omics and how its integration into research and healthcare to empower clinicians and scientists will be discussed. Specifically, integration impacting patient engagement and implementation of timely and effective interventions to improve patient outcomes.
