FLH 124 Principles of Sedation

This course includes instruction in pharmacology of sedative, narcotic and anticholinergic agents; pre-, intra- and post-operative monitoring of patient blood pressure, pulse, respirations, electrocardiogram, and oxygen saturation; techniques for venipuncture, drug delivery and reinforcement; and management of emergencies. The laboratory portion of the course includes venipuncture techniques, patient monitoring and appropriate documentation. This course is supplemented by daily management of sedation cases in the clinic under direct supervision of credentialed faculty. A sedation record is kept for all patients treated, with a separate file for any adverse reactions noted and managed.
