Health practitioners must understand how human variation and culture impacts the: (1) conceptualization of health and illness; (2) interaction between individuals and their environment; and (3) resistance and susceptibility to disease. Individual health care and population-based health benefit from an understanding that these perspectives can have significant influence on prevention and treatment efforts.
