SUR 4470 Vascular Surgery Sub-Internship

The purpose of this sub-internship rotation is to provide an immersive experience in the field of vascular surgery. Students will gain experience in the inpatient, outpatient and critical care arenas in which vascular surgeons participate in care. Students will gain experience with the evaluation, medical and surgical management of vascular disease and traumatic vascular injury. Sub-interns will be expected to participate in the care of patients at the level of an incoming intern, including rounding, presenting and longitudinal care for their vascular patients. It is expected that the sub-intern will take in-house call at the frequency of an intern, which may include coverage of non-vascular services or participating in trauma call. The sub-intern is expected to attend vascular specific education or general surgery education as directed by the senior residents. The sub-intern is expected to perform one group presentation during their rotation, which will be less than 15 minutes. The goal of this sub-internship is to expose the student to the field of vascular surgery and is meant for both students interested in general surgery or primary care specialties.
