COMR 872 Oral Pathology
This course consists of both didactic and clinical instruction in the field of pathology and laboratory support. It reinforces and builds upon the foundation of pathology learned and retained from dental school. Pathology lecture topics include salivary pathology, developmental disturbances of oral and perioral structures, benign and malignant non-odontogenic tumors of the oral cavity, odontogenic and non-odontogenic cysts, odontogenic tumors, alterations of the teeth, infections and infectious-like conditions of the oral regions, physical and chemical injuries of the oral cavity, oral aspects of metabolic disease, bone and joint disease, blood and blood-forming organ disease, skin and mucocutaneous diseases. It employs didactic awareness and clinical mentorship wherein residents can refine their diagnostic skills and comprehensively manage their patients and know when and how to refer their patients.
