MCB 504 Eukaryotic Genetics

This course emphasizes the genetic experimental approaches that are used to address questions in development, cell biology and human disease. Students are expected to develop an understanding of how genetic techniques are used to solve developmental and cell biological problems in a variety of eukaryotic model systems, as well as develop a basic understanding of classical and molecular genetics and gene regulation. Topics include Mendelian genetics, gene regulation from the single gene to the genomic level, cytoplasmic inheritance, and various genetic techniques in fungal and higher eukaryotic model organisms. Classes will be a mix of lectures and primary literature review.
