NURS 7220 Administrative Mental Health for the Advanced Practice Nurse
This course builds on the PMHNP curriculum to prepare students for advanced practice leadership within the administrative and operational context of military mental health. Emphasis is placed on the integration of clinical judgment, command consultation, policy, ethics, and legal considerations in uniformed healthcare settings. Content includes leadership principles; command-directed mental health evaluations; Medical Evaluation Board and Integrated Disability Evaluation System processes; duty-limiting and deployment-restricting mental health conditions; service-specific medical fitness standards; deployment waiver pathways; and administrative management of complex cases. Students examine command consultation practices, authorized release of protected health information, standards for legally defensible documentation, mental health coding and billing, and forensic and legal issues unique to military practice. Upon completion, students will demonstrate the ability to lead, advise, and execute administrative mental health responsibilities that support mission readiness while safeguarding the rights, safety, and dignity of Service Members.
