DLBT 3204 Ocular Prosthetics & Aesthetic Sub-Surface Artistry

This advanced course covers the clinical indications, technical laboratory fabrication, and artistic mastery required to create custom ocular (prosthetic eye) prostheses. Students will analyze anophthalmic conditions (the absence of an eye due to trauma, surgery, or congenital defects) alongside socket anatomy to determine proper contouring and volume replacement. Using advanced color theory, students will master sub-surface painting techniques to replicate lifelike depth in the iris and custom-blend scleral tones. Practical laboratory modules include iris disk fabrication, casting wax patterns, processing medical-grade acrylic resins, characterization with delicate red fiber veining, and achieving an ultra-smooth, high-luster biocompatible finish.
