PSY 3430 Forensic Psychiatry

Students participate in teaching rounds, conferences, lectures/seminars under the supervision of WRNMMC Forensic Psychiatry faculty and fellows in the evaluation and management of adult patients with legal and forensic concerns. 

Goals and Objectives:
1. Understand the tenets of capacity assessments in several areas of forensics: medical decision-making, participating in legal proceedings/standing trial, and criminal responsibility.
2. Participate and assist with background research, interviewing, and preparing written forensic assessments under direct supervision of the Forensic Psychiatry team.
3. Develop an understanding of the roles and relationships between forensic psychiatrists and the legal system.
