MPO 543 Foundations of Intervention: Marital and Couples Therapy

This course focuses on assessment and treatment of intimate relationships that may be addressed within the framework of clinical practice. From psychosocial, cognitive, behavioral, developmental, and systems theoretical frameworks, students will examine the formation, maintenance, and dysfunction of intimate dyadic relationships between adults. Previously learned knowledge of human behavior is built upon for elaborating on the conceptual, methodological, and clinical aspects of couples’ therapy. Readings and class discussions will include case examples to illustrate theoretical considerations, assessment, and specific interventions used in couples’ therapy.
