Overview
The Training in Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health (TTMTH) Certificate provides students with extensive skills and knowledge about the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases and other health conditions experienced in the international setting. The TTMTH program is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and pharmacists working in the clinical or operational setting where advanced training in tropical medicine and travelers’ health would be beneficial. Any U.S. government healthcare provider is eligible to apply. Priority is given to active duty military personnel and civilians are taken on a space available basis. Students will participate in a variety of classroom didactics and small group clinical discussions, as well as receive intensive hands on laboratory experience. Topics covered include parasitology, arbovirology, bacteriology, entomology, vaccine science and travel medicine. Students will gain comprehensive knowledge of the epidemiology, vectors and lifecycles, pathophysiology, clinical signs and symptoms, diagnostics, management and preventive of tropical infectious diseases and other conditions affecting international travelers and deployed military personnel. The TTMTH is designed to be completed in its entirety in a 12 week period and has been certified by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) as fulfilling the didactic requirements to sit for the Society’s qualifying examination for the Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health (CTropMed®)
