GSO 4006 Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility Sub-Internship
Students will be part of the REI team made up of board-certified reproductive endocrinologists and GSO residents (and fellows). They will participate in the outpatient and inpatient care of patients with infertility and other endocrine diagnoses. Students will, when appropriate, assist with specific procedures such as saline sonograms, hysterosalpingograms, and intrauterine inseminations. Students will participate with the team in the operating room, as well as gain exposure to Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) such as in vitro fertilization. Other opportunities for education include morning reports and departmental conferences. By the conclusion of the rotation the student should be able to: Describe the hormonal changes in the normal and abnormal menstrual cycle and how these are impacted by other factors within the body and environment. Demonstrate understanding of the basic infertility evaluation of both the male and female patient. Develop a basic understanding of the evaluation and treatment options for polycystic ovarian syndrome, congenital uterine anomalies, amenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding, thyroid and prolactin issues, and endometriosis.

Prerequisite
Students should have successfully passed the GSO core clerkship (GSO3200) prior to enrolling in this course. Exceptions can be made on a case by case basis at the discretion of the GSO education committee.
