HPE 800 Fundamentals of Systems Thinking

This course will cover some of the fundamentals of systems thinking, research and analysis. We will discuss what systems thinking is, what systems-based research problems are, and some of the theoretical frameworks that can be used to analyze systems. The readings in this course will draw broadly from the diverse disciplines that frequently coordinate and engage in systems-based efforts, including health services research, organizational psychology, simulation and modeling, human factors engineering, and educational psychology. The course culminates with a systems analysis session where we will jointly examine a selected system (usually a student’s project or suggestion).
