Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology - Masters of Science (MS) in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology

Overview

Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology: Advanced training in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is conducted to provide the next generation of highly trained officers and Oral Pathologists to carry out the primary mission of readiness. During the program, residents receive instruction in basic sciences applicable to anatomic and clinical pathology, laboratory management, statistics, data quality and systems-oriented healthcare. Residents also perform clinical patient care, including diagnosis and management of oral diseases, oral pre-cancer and cancer, oncologic management, and interpretation of advanced imaging. These skills support warfighter readiness through early identification and mitigation of effects of oral and systemic disease. Residents also receive instruction in forensic sciences, including forensic odontology, postmortem evaluation, medicolegal matters and engagement with the medical examiner, facilitating identification and dignified recovery of mortally wounded warfighters and supporting tri-service, NATO and other global partnerships. Graduates are expected to obtain board certification through the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Board certification is considered essential for the practice of this specialty, and is preferred as a requirement in order to obtain sign-out privileges in a hospital or medical center, the setting in which most Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists practice, and to teach in our accredited tri-service educational platforms.
