Admission Process
STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
Applicants may be admitted to CAHS if they fall into one of the below categories:
1. Students attending initial entry training (IET), advanced individual training (AIT) / A or C school courses:
These service members, without regard to Active Duty, National Guard or Reserve status, are students, on orders, attending their respective Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) / Additional Skills Identifier (ASI), Naval Enlisted Classification (NEC), or Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) producing course and have graduated their Service specific basic training.
2. Voluntary Education students:
The Education and Training Administration and Leadership program is specifically designed for a specialized cohort of personnel. Enrollment is restricted to Service members serving as instructors at authorized branch campuses, additional locations, or other instructional sites and teach directly in a CAHS program.
Academic programs within the CAHS are designated as Undergraduate Certificates, Associate's, and Bachelor’s Degrees. Each award is determined by specific military Service requirements and the verified academic program rigor of the curriculum. CAHS does not offer general education coursework; however, students may earn a degree within their program contingent on transfer and/or approved coursework.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Non-degree or course credit upon completion of training:
- Student must be selected and approved to attend a CAHS allied health science course by their parent Service and complete an application with USU.
Requirements for Associate Degree Programs:
- Students must be selected and approved to attend a CAHS program by their parent Service and must complete an application with USU;
- Submit a Joint Service Transcript or Community College of the Air Force Transcript;
- Submit official college transcript(s) from other schools attended for transfer credit evaluation.
Requirements for Bachelor Degree Programs:
- Students must be selected and approved to attend a CAHS program by their parent Service and must complete an application with USU;
- Submit a Joint Service Transcript or Community College of the Air Force Transcript;
- Submit official college transcript(s) from other schools attended for transfer credit evaluation.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Associate Degree Requirements
An Associate degree is awarded upon successful completion of at least 60 semester hours. These hours must include a minimum GPA of 2.0, a grade of C or higher in all courses, and at least 25% of the degree plan completed in residence. The curriculum comprises at least 21 semester hours of General Education (including 6 in Communication, 9 in Quantitative Science, and 6 in Human Science), a minimum of 15 semester hours in the Major Technical Field of Study, and sufficient Free Elective semester hours to reach the 60-hour total. Official transcripts verifying the completion of the specified General Education and total credit hours are required before the degree is granted. Once these criteria are satisfied, students are awarded an associate degree denoting their specific expertise; depending on the program, this may be conferred as a specialized degree in a distinct technical field or as a major or concentration within the Associate of Science in Health Sciences framework.

Certain programs require specific prerequisite transfer coursework that must be evaluated by the University prior to enrollment. These requirements are determined by the individual services and may not be waived:
- Occupational Therapy (Army and Navy): Applicants are required to have earned and submitted official transcripts transferring in a minimum of three (3) semester hours or five (5) quarter hours of college credits in each of the following subjects: English Composition, Speech/Oral Communication, Mathematics (college level), Social Science, and Humanities.
- Respiratory Care (Air Force): Applicants are required to have earned and submitted official transcripts transferring in a minimum of three (3) semester hours or five (5) quarter hours of college credits in each of the following subjects: English Composition, Speech/Oral Communication, Mathematics (College Algebra, College Geometry, Statistics, or higher-level Mathematics, such as Pre-calculus, Calculus, etc.), Social Science, and Humanities.
- Respiratory Care (Army): Applicants are required to have earned and submitted official transcripts transferring in a minimum of three (3) semester hours or five (5) quarter hours of college credits in each of the following subjects: English Composition, Speech/Oral Communication, Mathematics (college level), Social Science, and Humanities.
- Respiratory Care (Navy): Applicants are required to have earned and submitted official transcripts transferring in a minimum of three (3) semester hours or five (5) quarter hours of college credits in each of the following subjects: English Composition, Speech/Oral Communication, College Algebra, Social Science, and Humanities.
Eligible instructors applying for the Education and Training Administration and Leadership Program must submit an application and official transcripts, along with documentation of the following:
- Completion of a Service specific Instructor Qualification / Basic Instructor Course;
- Assignment to an instructor position and actively teaching;
- The ability to complete the program within 3 years.
Bachelor Degree Requirements
A Bachelor degree is awarded upon successful completion of at least 120 semester hours. These hours must include a minimum GPA of 2.0, a grade of C or higher in all courses, and at least 25% of the degree plan completed in residence. The curriculum comprises at least 36 semester hours of General Education (including 9 in Communication, 18 in Quantitative Science, and 9 in Human Science), a minimum of 30 semester hours in the Major Technical Field of Study, and sufficient Free Elective semester hours to reach the 120-hour total. Furthermore, 42 of the required 120 semester hours must be Upper Level credits, and official transcripts verifying the completion of the specified General Education and total credit hours are required before the degree is granted. Once these criteria are satisfied, students are awarded a bachelor degree denoting their specific expertise; depending on the program, this may be conferred as a specialized degree in a distinct technical field or as a major or concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences framework.

READMITTED OR REVERSE TRANSFER STUDENTS
Individuals who attend a CAHS program at a branch campus, additional location, or other instructional site and have not met degree requirements based on missing general education and/or free elective requirements will have a maximum of five years, which is based on a calendar year when program of study was completed. to transfer general education and/or free elective requirements (Reverse Transfer) or return to active status and complete the degree program. To be readmitted or returned to active status, students must meet the following criteria:
- Reverse Transfer Students must be actively affiliated with the DoW while currently performing duty in the specialty designation (Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) / Additional Skills Identifier (ASI), Naval Enlisted Classification - (NEC), Air Force Specialty Code - (AFSC), for the degree program sought (the specialty designation must not have been withdrawn by the Service Component or any other relevant authorities). Copy of current military orders may be required to be submitted for review at time of readmission;
- Within the five-year limit, submit official transcripts for new coursework earned after technical course completion.
Note: Education and Training Administration and Leadership degree seeking students who depart before meeting all degree requirements are dis-enrolled and ineligible for award of the degree unless they officially return to an instructor duty position. An exception may be made due to extenuating circumstances beyond the student’s control and if a member has met all degree requirements prior to departure from instructor duty pending the Dean’s approval.
SECOND OR SUBSEQUENT DEGREES
Second and subsequent degrees will only be awarded based on distinct credits not previously used in an awarded degree. For a second bachelor’s degree, in addition to the program's major field of study courses, a minimum of 18 of the required 42 semester hours of upper level credits must be hours not previously used in a CAHS awarded degree.
Degrees will be awarded based on transfer and/or approved coursework as long as the individual does not already hold a degree at the same or higher level with the same major or specialization. Applicants that already hold a degree in the same program will be awarded college credit.
