MED 3103 Hematology/Oncology Selective
The hematology/oncology selective occurs over four weeks, exposing students to a broad range of benign and malignant pathologies. The rotation focus the diagnosis and management of patients’ hematologic and oncologic conditions. Students will also participate in the inpatient management of treatment side effects, pain management, and newly diagnosed oncology and hematology patients. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of multidisciplinary tumor boards. There will also be opportunities for students to enhance their basic science understanding of oncologic and hematologic issues by rotating through the pathology service for more intensive review of peripheral smears, bone marrows, and anatomical pathology. Students may also elect to spend some time with radiation-oncology colleagues and oncologic pharmacists for a more in-depth multidisciplinary approach to the specialty.
