FKA 106 Advanced Techniques, Orthodontics

This course consists of both didactic and clinical instruction. Emphasis is directed toward the diagnosis and classification of skeletal and dental malocclusions in all three planes of space using pre-treatment records. The objective is for the resident to develop good judgment in distinguishing adjunctive orthodontic cases that require minor tooth movement from those requiring comprehensive orthodontic therapy. They glean, through lecture and seminars, an understanding for the normal dental development from the primary dentition through the permanent dentition and how to employ simple interceptive steps to expedite this development. The primary clinical focus is for the resident to develop the skills and understanding to accurately place and utilize fixed orthodontic appliances for minor tooth movement as well as the use of removable appliances when applicable.
