MED 3102 Cardiology Selective

The cardiology selective occurs over four weeks exposing students to a broad range of cardiac pathology and preventative services. Students participate in the assessment of outpatient cardiac issues, including chest pain, palpitations, and syncope. In addition, they become more familiar with indications for the different modalities of stress testing and ambulatory ECG monitoring. The clinic exposes students to atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, and valvular heart disease. There are also opportunities to observe procedures, including exercise and pharmacologic stress tests, cardioversion, echocardiography, angiography, and device placement and interrogation. Each site has specific cardiology conferences that students are expected to attend. Rotations are flexible and can be tailored to a student's interest to encompass inpatient, outpatient, or a combination.
