2024-2025 Academic Catalog

MPO 563 Clinical Psychophysiology Journal Club

This course will provide an introduction to epidemiologic methods for students in the behavioral sciences. While students will be exposed to the foundational concepts traditionally covered in an introductory epidemiology course, when possible, this course will focus on the application of these concepts to topics relevant to behavioral science, psychology, and behavioral health areas. Topics will cover disease surveillance, measures of morbidity and mortality, measuring diagnostic and screening tests, study methodologies in epidemiological research, estimating risk and the potential for prevention, causal inference, using epidemiology to evaluate health services and screening programs, the use of publicly accessible datasets in behavioral epidemiology research, public policy, and ethical issues in epidemiology. Students will learn how to apply epidemiological principles and research to inform their clinical and research work in psychology.
