COMF 714 Prosthodontics 1

The prosthodontics course consists of didactic and clinical instruction in fixed, removable, and implant indirect restorations to restore health, function, phonetics, and esthetics. The course consists of 2 clinical session rotations per week and didactic sessions (lecture, case discussions, staff demonstrations, lab exercises, literature review, and resident case presentations) throughout the 2-year program utilizing both analogue and digital dentistry techniques. The objectives of this course: apply a problem solving approach to collection, synthesis, and communication of data gathered, both written and oral; collect comprehensive data, using diagnostic mounting on a programmed class III dental articulator, understand basic prosthodontic principles when treatment planning and satisfying a patient’s chief complaint; understand materials and techniques applied to prosthetic procedures and appliances; understand patient complexities influencing quality prosthodontic treatment and considerations when to defer or refer treatment; and demonstrate application of adequate laboratory communication.
