COMF 717 Advanced Periodontology 1
The periodontal course consists of didactic and clinical instruction in diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the periodontium. Lecture topics include periodontal anatomy, classification of periodontal diseases, periodontal examination, radiographic examination, etiology of periodontal diseases, prognosis, treatment planning, non-surgical therapy, oral medicine and periodontics, instrumentation, surgical procedures, adjunctive procedures and antibiotic use, bone grafting and barrier membranes, growth factors in periodontics, surgical evaluation and techniques for implant placement, perio-restorative, and perio-endodontic considerations. The residents also get close to 500 hours of clinic time over the two years to learn a variety of non-surgical and surgical periodontal procedures and become familiar with a broad variety of periodontal techniques and materials.
